I’m Benee, the creator of Light & Lens -your photographer and your ultimate hype team (yes team with all my personalities).

 

Choosing a photographer is about more than just beautiful images; it’s about trust. That trust shapes your experience. When you feel comfortable, when you feel seen, that’s when the real magic happens. That’s when we capture the raw, unfiltered, breathtaking moments.​ We are so much more than written words can justify, but I'll give it my best go so you can get to know me!

Hailing from Fiji, I, along with my mum, brother and step dad moved to a town almost smaller than the island I was born on! I'm exaggerating but if you knew Trafalgar in Victoria circa 1998 then you know.

 

My dad had this film camera he taught me how to use and you best believe I was obsessed! In my young mind all I knew was we no longer needed to go to the back of a shady chemist, stand awkwardly stiff in front of a green backdrop and have our photo taken. This camera that fit into my hands meant holding onto memories.

 

Now I call Karratha home. This place and the people are something spectacular! I love the laid back adventurous lifestyle that I used to crave and couldn't have in Victoria. I love stand up paddling boarding and one day I'll be a pro! I've birthed my two beautiful daughters here - so when I'm not a busy unhinged type B mum, I spend my time organizing creative portrait sessions, reading on my kindle or  learning videography.

Emo and punk genre of music have my heart always (can confirm it definitely was NOT a phase mum!) I live to eat, you cannot convince me that the meaning of life isn't to taste and consume all and every type of food in the world. I was the kid fascinated with museums and art galleries- still am. Honestly a good time for me is a filthy chai latte, and a whole day at any museum or convention center.

I used to rope my siblings and friends into “model” shoots on film (they weren’t as thrilled as I was). When I got my first digital camera, I became that millennial at every gatho, documenting everything always! That digital camera dropped into a firepit one night when I was being a silly goose and it absolutely broke me. Looking back, photography was never just a hobby. It was my way of holding onto time.​

 

Fast-forward to today, and I’m living the dream that 12-year-old me manifested—telling stories through photos, making memories last forever. But more than anything, my reason behind light & lens' birth is empowering women and making then feel seen. My greatest inspiration are my two gorgeous girls.

 

Motherhood has changed the way I see everything. I feel time moving- one moment, they’re tiny; the next, they’re growing into their own wild, wonderful selves. That’s why I do what I do.
